The next day I had to work and Aaron had to go to school so Linds went into NYC by herself. She went to Cafe Lalo (her favorite restaurant and its also on You've Got Mail). She also went to Central Park, got a mani/pedi, went shopping, and went to Mary Popping's on Broadway. She said it was really cute and would see it again.
The next day Linds and I woke up and headed to Flushing, NY. We took the train from the Edison station to NY Penn station, caught a subway to Time Square (it was only 1 stop and we didn't want to walk), and then took the F subway to Flushing NY. That subway has LOTS of stops and took about 30 min but wasn't too bad. There is an express subway that goes on those tracks but we were going opposite of the express schedule.
Then we arrived... it was so cool to see everyone so excited about the US Open.
Here are some pictures of the grounds of the US Open before entering Arthur Ashe Stadium.
So we got there and it was really cloudy and Linds kept saying "Universe you are not allowed to rain." Well the universe didn't listen to her. We sat down and about 10 min later it started to rain. Luckily we had umbrellas and just sat in our seats. It stopped and they brought out the little "zamboni's" to get the water off the courts. Lindsey says she is putting these machines on her Christmas list..
They finally came back out and warmed up and got the match going. Maria Sharapova
Marion Bartoli is so muscular...
Maria Sharapova won the match. She was losing and came back for the win. It was a really exciting match.
Andy Roddick's continuation game from the day before was right after.
Brooklyn Decker was directly across from us. She was bawling after Andy lost because it was his last match before retirement.
Del Potro and Andy Roddick
Andy Roddick's final wave at Arthur Ashe Stadium
Del Potro was really nice about letting Andy do an interview. He had just won the match and talked for maybe 10 seconds. Andy of course cried.
Even with the rain and the delays it was a really fun day. We headed back onto the Subway and train and met Aaron at the train station. We ate from our fav chinese place Yummy Yummy and headed to bed. Linds and I were exhausted. She left the next morning which made me really sad. It was nice to have her in town. It reminded me of home and I got a little break from the regular NJ people.
